Thanks to the contributions of the Organisation’s Member States, this publication contains a total of 35 official national lists, equating to 6.154 registrations.
After deleting the registrations common to different countries (for example, there are 31 countries that use Merlot N), this leaves 4,020 names of different vine varieties. Of these, several varieties are repeated with different names or spellings, in order to respect the specific characteristics of each Member Country.
The OIV is continuing its work so that additions to this list may be proposed in the near future. These may include, for example, specifying the use of vine varieties, separating clones in another list, noting the species to which each vine variety belongs, and finally, regrouping varieties which are identical on a genetic level under the same international code.
